This delightful home with large walled garden and pool has been lovingly updated to provide 4 comfortable bedrooms, 3 and a half well appointed bathrooms, a newly fitted and attractive kitchen and updated living spaces.
The property is a classic double fronted village house, with white walls and traditional windows. The double front doors open into an open plan space containing a large dining room seating up to 14 and a study/quiet area. Through the arch and the beautiful kitchen is open to the living room. With its leather sofa and chairs, alcove with chaise and large flat screen tv, this room easily accommodates multiple guests. A modern double sided fireplace through to the dining room provides ample heat for chilly days in the winter, complimenting the central heating system in the main house. These rooms are furnished with a mix of classic and modern pieces with original artwork on the walls. Fans keep the living quarters cool in the summer without the need for air conditioning.
Upstairs in the main house is our large master bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom has a king size double bed, extensive wardrobes and flat screen tv. Updated and modernised in the 2018 this room is light and airy, with its own air conditioner, seating area and far reaching views to the east. The en-suite bathroom is well appointed and provides a shower over a bath and hand built vanity. Local tiles have been used on the walls to give a modern traditional look.
The Master Bedroom accesses the top terrace, with sun lounges for those sun-worshippers amongst us. The views here are spectacular from North to South taking in the rolling hills and coastal mountains of this beautiful part of Andalucia.
The guest wing of the house can be accessed from this terrace or below, through the kitchen, laundry/pool shower room and the lower hall. Here in the older part of the house we have a downstairs double bedroom and two upstairs bedrooms with a shower room and en-suite. Age old beans span the ceilings and cool tiled floors are dotted with antique rugs. Air conditioners heat or cool as desired or open the windows to enjoy the breezes this area of Spain is known for. The downstairs bedroom has shutters on its wooden windows as well as an antique iron double bed enclosed by netting, wardrobe and chest of draws. The Moroccan light throws patterns around the room evocative of another era.
Upstairs, past the huge wall clock is a modern shower room with walk in shower and vanity.
The largest bedroom has been converted into a children’s room, with 3 single beds. This huge room with high ceilings has it’s own built in wardrobe and air conditioning. Area lights mean everyone can read or catch-up with the world without disturbing the others. Traditional windows frame the far reaching views and wooden blinds keep the sun out during the day.
Our last bedroom was fashioned from a terrace and outdoor kitchen. It’s now home to a king size bed and a modern en-suite bathroom. New flooring throughout and updated lighting complement the beach style of this room, with wooden blinds and wicker furniture. The sunny bathroom has multiple windows which catch the breezes and a bath for lazy bathers.
This room is accessed from either the children’s room or the ‘naya’ overlooking the pool.
Outside from the living room through the sliding doors is the garden terrace and garden which runs the full length of the house. Trees provide shade for most of the day and make it ideal for a relaxed brunch. A pond full of iris is a cool oasis in the private space. Flowers tumble over the walls and ancient Olive tree alike with a huge oak shadowing the lawn and swing.
Out the new door from the kitchen and you find the main terrace leading up to the pool. This walled terrace protects it’s citrus trees, plumbago and bougainvilleas from the cool mornings in the winter. A modern outdoor corner sofa is an ideal spot for relaxing and cocktails in the evening.
The pool is uniquely shaped with stairs from the covered naya. Our outdoor dining area is in the naya, close to the gas barbecue. Here you can indulge in the ‘sobremesa’ the Spanish for lingering after a meal, while watching the activities of those in the pool. At night the lights in and around the pool make this an enchanting spot for long suppers.
*“naya” is a sun-drenched terrace attached to the house, often used as an outside cooking and dining area.
